Five regional infusion centers in Texas have run out of sotrovimab, the only COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatment that appears to be effective against the omicron variant, the Department of Health and Human Services said Dec. 27.
The agency said centers in Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio and The Woodlands have exhausted their supplies of the treatment, citing national scarcity. The agency added that affected centers will not be able to offer sotrovimab until the government ships more supplies in January.
Antibodies as prescribed by providers for patients diagnosed with non-omicron cases will continue to be administered.
