Meek Blood Center in Abilene, Texas, is undergoing a critical shortage of O-negative blood, according to Big Country Homepage.
The blood center, which serves more than a dozen local hospitals, is urging anyone with type O-negative blood to donate. Interested donors can go to one of the center's two locations in Abilene or attend one of three upcoming blood drives this weekend.
O-negative blood — the universal blood type — can be immediately transfused to a trauma patient when there is no time to test the individual's blood type.
