Pfizer Recalls 3 Lots of Effexor XR, Generic Equivalent

New York-based Pfizer has issued a recall on three lots of Effexor XR and Greenstone LLC-branded Venlafaxine HC1 capsules because a pharmacist reported finding a Tikosyn (dofetilide) capsule in one bottle of Effexor XR.

The effects and of taking a Tikosyn while also taking Effexor XR could cause serious adverse events, including death, according to the report.

Pharmacists should quarantine and cease distribution of any of the affected lots, and patients who have a potentially affected product should return it to their pharmacy and notify their physician, advises the report.
