Patient Power, a global provider of educational audio and video content for people with cancer, surveyed more than 1,000 cancer patients and found that 1/3 of them undergo financial strain as a result of high drug costs.
Here are four things to know about the survey, which was launched in May:
- About 5 percent of survey participants reported spending more than $5,000 a month on cancer drugs. More than 10 percent reported spending between $1,000 and $4,999 a month.
- Nearly 20 percent of respondents or their family members have been living with cancer for more than 10 years.
- Approximately 35 percent of respondents said they receive financial support from an assistance program.
- Around 9 percent of participants reported being denied assistance.
