The Massachusetts Hospital Association and Illinois Hospital Association have become supporting organizations of the Healthier Hospital Initiative.
As supporting organizations, Massachusetts and Illinois hospitals will actively promote best practices in six sustainability areas: engaged leadership, healthier food, leaner energy, less waste, safer chemicals and smarter purchasing.
IHA President and CEO Maryjane Wurth and MHA President and CEO Lynn Nicholas said the move demonstrates that hospitals in their respective states are committed to reducing their carbon footprint and demonstrating environmental stewardship.
MHA represents more than 100 hospitals, while IHA has more than 200 hospital members. Seven other state hospital associations are supporting organizations of the HHI: California, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Vermont and Wisconsin.
