Mumbai, India-based Lupin earned Food and Drug Administration approval for its generic cough syrup, according to Drug Store News.
Here are three things to know.
1. The syrup is a combination of hydrocodone bitartrate — a narcotic that suppresses the cough reflex in the brain — and homatrophine methylbromide, which dries up mucus or secretions.
2. The drug is intended to relieve cough symptoms in adults and children six years and older.
3. Lupin's cough syrup is a generic version of Endo Pharmaceuticals' Hycodan Oral solution.
