Richard Padzur, MD, will head the Oncology Center of Excellence, a program created under Vice President Joe Biden's Cancer Moonshot initiative to accelerate cancer research.
Dr. Padzur serves as the director of the Office of Oncology and Hematology at the Food and Drug Administration. He possesses in-depth understanding of the FDA's inner workings and has developed extensive knowledge of cancer treatment during his 20 years of experience.
In his new role as acting director of the OCE, Dr. Padzur will work in conjunction with directors from the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and the Center for Devices and Radiological Health to create a cross-center regulatory approach for clinical review of oncology related drugs, biologics and medical devices.
He will also serve as the main communicator between the OCE and oncology stakeholders, which includes patient-focused advocacy groups, professional associates, industry and academic representatives, and sister agencies like the National Institute of Health.
