FDA approves Medtronic's larger aortic valve replacement system

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved Dublin-based Medtronic's CoreValve Evolut R 34 mm valve.

This transcatheter aortic valve replacement system is intended to treat severe aortic stenosis in patients at a high or extreme risk for surgery who have an aortic valve diameter of 26 to 30 millimeter.

This new system offers a treatment solution for patients who were previously unable to undergo a transcatheter aortic valve replacement due to the larger size of their aortic valve, according to the report.
