Express Scripts to acquire eviCore for $3.6B: 4 things to know

Express Scripts will buy eviCore healthcare, a private medical benefits manager, for $3.6 billion.

Here are four things to know.

1. EviCore staffs about 4,000 employees and oversees the medical benefits for 100 million people.

2. Once acquired, eviCore will operate as an independent business unit within Express Scripts.

3. The acquisition highlights Express Scripts' efforts to refocus its business strategy after learning Anthem, its biggest client, would not renew its contract with the pharmacy benefit manager in 2019, reports The Wall Street Journal.

4. Express Scripts expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2017.
