The Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved Egalet Corp.'s long-acting opioid painkiller Arymo ER, reports Reuters.
Arymo ER is an extended-release form of morphine intended to prevent abuse by those seeking to dissolve and inject the drug. In August, an FDA advisory panel voted 18-1 in favor of the drug's approval.
Egalet is a specialty pharmaceutical company located in Buffalo Grove, Ill. Its painkiller tablets are extremely hard, difficult to chew, resistant to particle size reduction and block attempts at chemical extraction of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, according to the company's website.
