Easton Hospital updates radiation therapy for cancer treatments

Easton (Pa.) Hospital has upgraded its radiation therapy technology with a new linear accelerator, the organization announced Tuesday.

Hospital officials said the technology customizes X-rays to conform to a tumor's shape and destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue.

The new equipment allows for several advanced treatment approaches, including intensity modulated radiotherapy, image guided radiotherapy, volumetric arc therapy and stereotactic body radiation therapy.

"Today we begin a more advanced approach to the care, treatment and safety of cancer patients," Karen Vadyak, CNO and assistant CEO, said in a prepared statement. "The new LINAC reduces treatment time and targets tumors with greater accuracy. We are pleased to offer this technology to patients who face the challenges of a cancer journey."
