The U.S. market for disposable medical supplies is projected to be valued at $49.3 billion by 2018, growing at a rate of 4.1 percent per year, according to a Report Linker report.
The report projects disposable drug delivery products, such as parenteral medicines and intravenous and dialysis solutions, to see the highest growth, given the increasing number of patients requiring surgery or long-term care. This sector is expected to reach $13.4 billion in 2018.
Disposable wound management products, such as polymeric tissue sealants and collagen wound dressings, will follow at $10.1 billion by 2018.
Additionally, the focus on infection control in hospitals calls for an increase in disposable supplies, according to the report.
"The heightened focus on infection prevention in the health care sector will boost consumption of single use, high value-added nonwoven garments and textiles by hospitals and outpatient facilities," reads the report.
