Baxter to lay off 131 New York employees

Deerfield, Ill.-based Baxter International, a medical devicemaker, will lay off 131 employees at its facility in Medina, N.Y., according to Buffalo Business First.

The cuts will trim the company's workforce in New York from 421 employees to 290 employees. The layoffs will occur by the first quarter of 2019.

The layoffs are a result of the devicemaker's decision to transition its maintenance and repair departments to a facility in Illinois. The decision follows an analysis of how best to meet patient needs and ensure timely supply for customers, a Baxter spokesperson told Buffalo Business.

Affected employees will receive transition services with eligibility for severance and outplacement services, Baxter said.
