The Food and Drug Administration's website lists almost 40 major device recalls that occurred in 2016.
Here are six notable recalls from last year, according to medreps.com.
1. Boston Scientific recalled 17,455 Fetch 2 Aspiration catheters nationwide because shaft breakage occurred before or during procedures.
2. Greatbatch Medical recalled 2,906 Standard Offset Cup Impactors in the U.S. The device, which is used for hip joint replacement, failed sterility testing.
3. HeartWare recalled 5,654 ventricular assist device controllers over loose connector ports and 105 ventricular assist device pumps for contamination risks that could cause electrical issues or pump stops.
4. DePuy Synthes recalled 451 power tool system battery adaptors over a risk that the devices could produce extreme internal pressure and potentially explode.
5. CareFusion recalled 501 units of its AVEA ventilator over an electrical issue that caused the device to unexpectedly shut down.
6. Medtronic Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions recalled 9,817 battery packs used in patient monitors due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the devices to catch on fire.
