While logistics companies, warehouses and courier services all added new positions last month in preparation for a busy holiday season, trucking companies and manufacturers slashed jobs due to slow growth in shipping volumes, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Here are three statistics on the supply chain workforce, based on Labor Department data.
- Trucking companies cut 3,600 jobs in September, while manufacturers slashed 13,000 positions.
- Logistics employers added more than 5,000 positions last month.
- Warehousing and courier companies last month brought on 8,000 new employees.
