2 more China-based syringe manufacturers receive import alert

Nearly six months after the FDA told healthcare workers to avoid plastic syringes made in China, the agency has placed import alerts on three China-based medical supply manufacturers.

In late November, the FDA said it was receiving numerous reports of China-made plastic syringes breaking and leaking, and compatibility issues with infusion pumps after companies changed syringe dimensions.

All of Jiangsu Shenli Medical Production's piston syringes are subject to detention without physical examination, according to import alerts published in late March and early April. On May 16, the FDA said it gave the same restriction to plastic syringes made by Zhejiang Longde Pharmaceutical Co. and Shanghai Kindly Enterprise Development Group Co.

The agency still recommends healthcare facilities do not use plastic syringes made in China and "immediately transition away from using plastic syringes" from Jiangsu Caina Medical Co., Jiangsu Shenli Medical Production Co., Shanghai Kindly Enterprise Development Group Co. and Zhejiang Longde Pharmaceutical Co.
