UNC Health Care, North Carolina's largest academic healthcare system, will shorten to UNC Health under a new rebrand, the Chapel Hill-based health system said Feb. 20.
Four things to know:
1. The name change will be seen across the 11-hospital system and UNC Health's affiliates in the coming months. A UNC spokesperson told WRAL the rebrand cost nearly $1 million.
2. UNC Health said the change marks a commitment to transforming the health system's strategy. That strategy includes adopting new technologies, changing how healthcare is delivered and implementing a new operating model.
3. "UNC Health's transformation strategy boldly defines our roadmap over the next five to 10 years," CEO Wesley Burks, MD, said in a prepared statement. "One of the key changes that will position us well to achieve our strategic goals is a new operating model. This is our first major operating model change in decades, and provides us with a modernized and integrated approach to meeting our patients' needs."
4. The change follows a leadership restructuring at UNC Health. In November 2019, the health system shuffled its leadership team to better unify its hospitals, clinics and physician offices.
