More than software, a partnership for the future

Community hospitals have everything they need to attain the most leading-edge innovation.

The right cloud-based technology can support these organizations’ clinical goals, as well as boost patient and clinician satisfaction. With an open platform—a software system that enables the user to directly access data but also has open standards—community hospitals get the data they need to make optimal strategic decisions. Here are some key takeaways for community hospitals that are looking to innovate.

Patients and clinicians at community hospitals deserve innovations

Patients at community hospitals should be treated with the same technology used at academic medical centers. And clinicians at community hospitals also deserve the best functionality available, such as real-time clinical analytics at the point of care. If this can be achieved, clinicians can have actionable knowledge at their fingertips—right in the workflow. By providing this innovation, they don’t have to sift through other tabs or areas to understand what’s going on with a patient.

Cloud-based solutions have revamped technology at community organizations

I have seen cloud-based solutions speed up the pace of innovation for organizations. Many use them because they push the focus from managing machines to driving better user experiences as a result of IT. Also, members of the nursing informatics team have more time to train the staff on the solution instead of dealing with these machines.

With Sunrise ™ Community Care, community hospitals can use the integrated EHR while all of the solution management is handled by Allscripts. This gives organizations the opportunity to focus more on patient care rather than the technical aspects related to EHR management.

The extended partnership between Allscripts and Microsoft brings positive outcomes

In July 2020, Allscripts announced a five-year extension of its relationship with Microsoft, which included moving the Sunrise™ EHR platform to Microsoft Azure. The extended partnership means Allscripts can leverage already-built capabilities in Azure, creating specific workflow use cases—ultimately expediting the process of adopting innovative solutions to address the physician and nursing burden.

The extended partnership also provides key infrastructure, enabling new collaboration among healthcare organizations to plan faster evidence-based treatment protocols. Plus, through Microsoft, the partnership offers Allscripts clients access to more advanced cybersecurity software to keep patient data safe and secure.

Technology is changing the way hospitals and health systems perform. I see more outcomes-driven performance enabled by technology—which is to say, I think we’re headed in the right direction. More automation of low-value work will drive higher efficiencies, and, importantly, more quality time spent with patients. Wide adoption of use-base analytics to assess organizations’ adherence to care standards will influence clinical behavior and will be crucial to driving down the cost of healthcare, while making the use of the EHR simpler.

All of these technology-enabled capabilities, paired to the right clinical use case focused on human-centered design, will significantly increase the speed to wellness for our clients’ patients while reducing the burden on providers.
