Cleveland Clinic is moving forward with several expansion projects on the main campus as well as other locations in Ohio.
Here are five ongoing projects outlined in the health system's latest financial report, released in November.
1. Cleveland Clinic is in the midst of planning for a new neurological institute building on its main campus to centralize all neurological care. The 1-million-square-foot facility was announced in 2019 and construction is expected to begin next year. The facility will likely take four years to complete and services will include imaging, neurosimulation training, infusion therapy, brain-mapping and more.
2. The Cole Eye Institute expansion was announced in 2019 and will add 150,000 square feet to the existing building on the main campus. The expansion began earlier this year and will likely take three years to finish. The expansion will include an ophthalmic surgery center, a new imaging center and an expanded simulation center for education.
3. Cleveland Clinic is building a 36-inpatient-bed hospital on vacant land in Lake County, Ohio, which is expected to open late next year. The hospital will also include an emergency department, outpatient exam and procedure rooms and lab services. Mayfield Heights, Ohio-based Hillcrest Hospital will manage the new facility when it opens.
4. Hillcrest Hospital's cancer center is adding 10,600 square feet to incorporate a home-like healing environment into the existing facility. The Lozick Cancer Pavilion construction began in August 2021 and is expected to wrap up next summer. The facility design allows for a lot of natural light, green space views and artwork.
5. Cleveland Clinic's Global Center for Pathogen Research and Human Health, which is included in the Cleveland Innovation District, is adding or renovating 400,000 square feet of space on the main campus. The renovations have begun and the health system is in the design phase for additional space.
