University of Rochester Medical Center, Apollo Hospitals in India Discuss Affiliation

University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center and Chennai, India-based Apollo Hospitals are scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding today concerning a potential affiliation.

Apollo is one of the largest private hospital networks in its region, with 50 hospitals located across India and eight other countries in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Under the proposed agreement, URMC physicians would work with Apollo facilities to develop clinical, research and education programs concerning emergency medicine, neurosurgery and neuromedicine. URMC would also help Apollo Hospitals with gastroenterology, gastrointestinal surgery, and gastrointestinal oncology programs.

The affiliation would allow URMC to extend its brand's international reach, according to the news release.
