Sanford Health, based in Fargo, N.D., and Sioux Falls, S.D., is considering developing a pediatric clinic in China, according to an Argus Leader report.
In August, Sanford will send a team to Ningbo, China, and possibly a second city, to assess opportunities for opening a clinic. The clinic would offer pediatric services and would be designed to break even in three to five years. Sanford Health has used this model with clinics in other countries, such as Ghana. Sanford is also looking at Bolivia and Ecuador for possible expansion, according to the report.
Ruth Krystopolski, executive vice president of development and research at Sanford, said the potential move to China would help the health system learn about scale and help China learn about how healthcare is delivered in the United States, according to the report.
