Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health threatened to sue Dirne Community Health Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, after it announced a name change to Legacy Health Sept. 9, according to a Spokesman-Review report.
Dirne Community Health Center, a provider of medical, dental and behavioral health services, changed its name to Legacy Health to communicate its openness to everyone in the community, regardless of health insurance, according to the news release. A common public perception was the organization served only people who could not afford insurance, the release stated.
Soon after the rebranding announcement, however, the health center was contacted by Portland-based Legacy Health, which threatened to sue for trademark infringement, according to the Spokesman-Review. In response, the health center decided to change its name again, this time to Heritage Health.
Dirne Community Hospital originally operated as Lake City Healthcare until 1994, when it changed its name to honor founder Lidwin Dirne.
