Indiana University School of Medicine Offers Joint MD-Public Health Program

The Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis announced it is collaborating with the new IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health to create a joint Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health program.

The interdisciplinary joint degree program is supported by a five-year, $1.46 million grant IU School of Medicine received from HHS last month. The grant supports the curriculum for the program and the integration of public health content and experiences into the primary care curriculum for all IU School of Medicine students, according to the release.

The MD-MPH program will provide training in environmental health, infectious disease control, disease prevention and health promotion, epidemiological studies and injury control. The program is designed for students to complete both degrees in five years.

IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health was established at the end of September from a gift of $20 million from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation last year. The school evolved from the Department of Public Health in the IU School of Medicine.
