Allegheny Health Network — that's the new and finalized name for the recently approved affiliation between Pittsburgh-based Highmark and West Penn Allegheny Health System, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report.
The Pennsylvania Department of Insurance approved Highmark's $1.1 billion bid to buy the system yesterday, and attention now turns to Highmark's ambitious plan to revamp the struggling system and better compete with competitor University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
John Paul, a former UPMC executive, will lead Allegheny Health Network as CEO.
