Delos Cosgrove, MD, has served at the helm of Cleveland Clinic for roughly a decade, and one of his biggest ideas to change the landscape of Cleveland — and the nation — is set to launch in October, according to a Forbes report.
The Global Center for Health Innovation will open to the public next month, and according to its website, it "is the only facility in the world that displays the future of health and healthcare … through state-of-the-art spaces, programs and virtual offerings."
In essence, the Global Center is a "giant mall" or convention center for hospital professionals, according to the Forbes report. Dr. Cosgrove envisions the center as a place where hospital executives, physicians and everyone else involved with the nuts and bolts of running a hospital can browse and shop for the most innovative products that can keep an organization on the cutting edge.
Dr. Cosgrove has had his eyes set on venture capitalist ideas for several years, and some prominent companies have already spun off from the Cleveland Clinic, including data firm Explorys and specialty lab company Cleveland HeartLab. He believes the Global Center can be both an economic driver and healthcare game changer for a city that is trying to grow its reputation as a "destination medical city," similar to Mayo Clinic and Rochester, Minn., according to the report.
