Durham (N.C.) Regional Hospital announced it changed its name to Duke Regional Hospital to more clearly reflect its relationship with Durham-based Duke Medicine.
The hospital changed its name based on market research that revealed residents preferred a healthcare facility with the well-known Duke brand. The clearer tie to Duke Medicine and the Duke brand is expected to attract more patients and health professionals, according to the news release.
The hospital also has a new tagline, "Serving our community since 1976," which is displayed in the Duke Regional logo. Duke Regional was created through the merger of Lincoln and Watts hospitals in 1976.
Duke Regional Hospital is the third name of the facility, which was called Durham County General Hospital before it was renamed Durham Regional Hospital in 1990 to indicate its broader patient base, according to the news release.
