US News' Best Hospitals 2017-18 rankings across 5 specialties

In addition to its 2017-18 honor roll hospital rankings released Aug. 8, U.S. News and World Report ranked the top hospitals across 16 specialties.

To determine the best hospitals across the 16 adult specialties, U.S. News analyzed data from roughly 5,000 hospitals and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians. The publication also studied specific factors such as survival rates, patient safety, specialized staff and hospital reputation, among others.

Here are the top hospitals across five of the 16 specialties for 2017-18, including ties.

Diabetes and endocrinology

1. Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.)
2. Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston)
3. Cleveland Clinic
3. The Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore)
5. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (New York City)

Gynecology

1. Mayo Clinic
2. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York City)
3. Michigan Medicine (Ann Arbor)
4. Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston)
5. Cleveland Clinic

Neurology and neurosurgery

1. Mayo Clinic
2. The Johns Hopkins Hospital
3. Massachusetts General Hospital
4. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
5. UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco)

Pulmonology

1. National Jewish Health (Denver)
2. Mayo Clinic
3. Cleveland Clinic
4. Massachusetts General Hospital
