Survey: 5 countries with best healthcare for retirees

A healthy, 65-year-old couple will need $275,000 to cover their healthcare costs in retirement, according to a Fidelity study released last year, but American retirees can find much more affordable healthcare outside the U.S., Fox Business reports.

International Living compared healthcare benefits in the top 24 countries they recommend for an overseas retirement.

"In addition to a survey of specific prices for a range of treatments, medications, and insurance, we also take into account the ease with which expats can access care," Jennifer Stevens, International Living's executive editor, told Fox Business. "In the communities we recommend in all the nations that top our list, expats can find excellent healthcare at prices as low as 50 percent or less of what they'd expect to pay at home in the United States."

Here are the top five countries International Living recommends for American retirees seeking healthcare out of the country.

1. Costa Rica

2. Malaysia

3. Colombia

4. Mexico

5. Panama
