IBM Watson released its annual 100 Top Hospitals study analyzing the top-performing hospitals in the U.S. on March 4.
For the study, IBM Watson researchers analyzed 3,156 short-term, acute care, nonfederal U.S. hospitals using public data sets from Medicare and CMS.
The hospitals included in the list outperformed peer-group hospitals across all 10 clinical and operational performance benchmarks, including mean 30-day risk-adjusted mortality rate and readmission rate, severity-adjusted length of stay, and HCAHPS score, among others.
The study also recognizes the 100 Top Hospitals Everest Award winners, which include the 15 hospitals and health systems that were awarded the top hospitals designation and are among the 100 top institutions for rate of improvement during a five-year period.
