IBM Watson Health released the top 50 hospitals for cardiovascular care Nov. 5.
To determine which hospitals made the list, IBM Watson Health researchers analyzed Medicare cost reports and provider analysis from 2016 and 2017 and CMS data published during the second quarter of 2018.
Hospitals were also scored on a number of performance-based areas, including risk-adjusted mortality, 30-day readmission rates and CMS 30-day episode payment measures, among others. Hospitals named to this year's list saw higher inpatient survival rates, fewer complications, shorter lengths of stay, lower costs and lower readmission rates.
