Louisiana is the most stressed state in the U.S., and Minnesota is the least stressed, according to WalletHub's 2024 ranking published March 25.
The ranking is based on four dimensions: work-related stress, money-related stress, family-related stress, and health- and safety-related stress. WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 40 metrics, ranging from average hours worked per week to the share of adults getting adequate sleep. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the highest level of stress. WalletHub then determined each state's weighted average across all metrics to calculate each state's overall score and rank-order states.
