10 best, worst states for nurses

Oregon is the best state for nurses, according to an analysis by WalletHub.

To select the best and worst states for nurses in 2019, WalletHub analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions: opportunity and competition, and work environment. Analysts evaluated those two dimensions using 21 metrics, including nurses' average annual salary, monthly average starting salary and mandatory overtime restrictions.

Here are the best states to work as a nurse based on the analysis:

1. Oregon

2. Minnesota

3. Washington

4. New Mexico

5. Maine

6. Montana

7. Arizona

8. Nevada

9. New Hampshire

10. Iowa

Here are the worst places to work as a nurse based on the analysis:

1. District of Columbia

2. New York

3. Hawaii

4. Louisiana

5. Oklahoma

6. Alabama

7. Mississippi

8. Ohio

9. Vermont

10. Virginia
