Honolulu is 2025's best city for an active lifestyle, primarily because it promotes community sports more than any other, according to an annual WalletHub analysis published Jan. 8.
For the ranking, the personal finance company evaluated the 100 most populated U.S. cities across two key dimensions: budget and participation, and sports and outdoors. WalletHub assessed these dimensions using 35 metrics, ranging from the average monthly fitness-club fee to the city's air quality.
Each metric was graded on a scale from 1 to 100, with 100 representing the most favorable conditions for a physically active population. Analysts calculated each city's active lifestyle score as the weighted average of its metric scores, which were then used to rank the cities. Read more about the methodology here.
