U.S. News & World Report released its list of the best hospitals for pulmonology and lung surgery Aug. 1, with the Mayo Clinic, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and NYU Langone Hospitals earning the top three spots.
U.S. News evaluated 1,696 hospitals and named the top 50 for treating complex respiratory conditions such as pulmonary embolism or fibrosis, lung transplant and heart and lung bypass. Hospitals were analyzed on performance measures in three main healthcare dimensions: structure, process and outcomes. For the first time, this year's ranking also assessed whether hospitals participate and publicly report data via the STS General Thoracic Surgery Database.

- Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian (Philadelphia)
- National Jewish Health, Denver
- Stanford (Calif.) Hospital
- UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco)
- UC San Diego Health-La Jolla and Hillcrest Hospitals
- North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset, N.Y.)
