Seven radiology associations requested changes to Current Procedural Terminology codes at the American Medical Association's recent CPT Editorial Panel meeting, according to a Sept. 26 update from the American College of Radiology.
CPT codes standardize communications regarding specific procedures and services across health systems.
Here are five things to know about the radiology code changes:
- The American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Association of Academic Radiology, Society of Interventional Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology and American Society for Radiation Oncology attended the meeting to submit code change requests.
- The code change applications requested were for lower extremity vascular procedures, thoracic branch endograft services, sympathetic denervation of renal arteries and radiation oncology treatment delivery.
- The American Medical Association will publish CPT Category III code approvals Jan. 1, 2025, with changes effective July 1, 2025.
- CPT Category I code approvals will not go into effect until Jan. 1, 2026.
