UnitedHealthcare, Cigna Won't Participate in Missouri's Health Exchange

Major health insurers including UnitedHealthcare, Cigna and Assurant Health will not offer insurance policies this October in Missouri's federally run health insurance exchange, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

Assurant, based in New York City, plans to participate in exchanges in 2015, according to the report. Louisville, Ky.-based Humana has said it will enter 14 exchanges in 2014 but has not specified the states.

Other insurers such as Aetna, Aetna subsidiary Coventry Health Care and Centene may be planning to take part in the Missouri exchange, although company officials did not return phone calls, according to industry sources.
