Texas is considering slashing co-payments to physicians for people covered under both Medicare and Medicaid, a move that could save millions for the state, according to a Miami Herald report.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission will also conduct two hearings in Austin on the potential change in payments to occupational therapists. The state plan calls for cutting $150 million a year for therapists, 19 percent of the $792 million they received last year.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission periodically reviews Medicaid rates to make sure they line up with Texas Medicare rates, as well as Medicaid rates in other states. The most recent review of therapy codes found that Texas Medicaid paid much more than Medicare for some services.
