St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Chalmette, La., is proposing a new, one-time property tax to raise $9 million and improve the hospital's cash flow, according to a Times-Picayune report.
The proposal will appear on the April ballot. The measure would slightly raise homeowners' property taxes — for example, a district taxpayer with a $150,000 home would have to pay about $225 more, according to the report.
If approved, the extra $9 million would increase St. Bernard Parish Hospital's operating revenue by 30 percent.
