Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is forming a new task force to examine contributions from the city's non-profit organizations, including the healthcare giant University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.
The mayor has invited more than 30 business and civic leaders to serve on the task force, which must be formed by the end of the year. The task force meetings would be public and a report is expected by June 30, 2013, according to the report.
UPMC has faced some unflinching criticism over its tax-exempt status. A week ago, Allegheny County leaders announced UPMC would be the first organization in the county to undergo a review of its tax-exempt property.
