Partners HealthCare in Boston has reached an agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts on a renegotiated contract that would reduce payments by $240 million over three years.
The newly negotiated contract would reduce payments by $80 million in the first year alone. Under the agreement, Partners has also entered into BCBS' Alternative Quality Contract, a global payment system that requires Partners to meet or exceed quality measures for its patients and keep cost growth lower than the network average for the rest of the BCBS provider network.
The health system's new agreement with BCBS increases rates during the contract period, which will be held in line with general inflation.
