New York State Extends East End Health Alliance's In-Network Services

The state of New York has allowed the extension of Oxford/United Healthcare policyholders to receive in-network services at East End Health Alliance hospitals through Sept. 14 even though the contract between the insurer and the hospitals expired in July, according to a Riverhead News-Review report.

According the report, the state of New York requires insurance carriers and hospitals to observe a two-month "cooling off period," which is a period of time members can fully access the hospitals while a new contract is negotiated. The three hospitals part of EEHA include Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, N.Y., Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, N.Y., and Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital.

The hospitals will continue to provide emergency services to Oxford policyholders if a new contract isn't reached by Sept. 15, but non-emergency services would only be provided on an out-of-network basis, the report said. The state of the negotiations has not been acknowledged by either party.
