The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission discussed draft recommendations for payment changes to post-acute care providers starting in fiscal year 2013, according to an AHA News Now report.
Among its possible draft recommendations, MedPAC considered a 0 percent market-basket update; a 1 percent update for the end-stage renal disease prospective payment system; and revisions and rebasing of the skilled-nursing facilities prospective payment system that could include an average 27 percent increase in payments to hospital-based skilled-nursing facilities and payment reductions to skilled-nursing facilities with high readmission rates.
These considerations may be revised before MedPAC conducts a vote on the recommendations in January.
