From 2009 to 2010, the number of people enrolled in a Medicaid managed care program rose 8 percent, reaching a total of 36.4 million people, according to a report from health plan market data analysis firm Mark Farrah Associates.
Current estimates for 2011 also indicate enrollment in Medicaid managed care will be up an additional 4 percent to 37.8 million people.
Several states, such as Louisiana and Kansas, have moved or are moving toward a state Medicaid managed care program. This has led to increased state Medicaid contracts for health insurers such as Centene, Molina Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare.
