Mayo Clinic's Franciscan to Request Partial Payment Before Uninsured Patients Receive Services

Mayo Clinic Health System's Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Wis., will begin asking uninsured patients to pay a portion of the cost before receiving certain healthcare services, according to a La Crosse Tribune report.

The new payment policy will take effect at Franciscan clinics across several communities. Under the policy, uninsured patients will be asked to pay $75 and $100 for a clinic visit and a hospital visit/outpatient service, respectively, according to the report. Uninsured patients will also be connected to financial assistance. However, if a patient cannot pay, healthcare services will not be denied.

The health system implemented the policy to help reduce bad debt, according to the report.
