Louisiana State University Hospitals Face $29M Budget Cut

LSU Health, based in Baton Rouge, La., must cut $29 million from its current fiscal budget in order to make up for budget reductions announced by Gov. Bobby Jindal, according to a Republic report.

As part of efforts to close a $251 million gap in the state budget, state government officials diverted $50 million of federal healthcare funding from LSU Health to the Department of Health and Hospitals in order to balance cuts made there, according to the report.

As a result LSU Health has turned to its own budget for cuts, which may include layoffs, reduction in hospital beds and program cuts, according to the report.
