Nearly $71.6 million has been invested in hospitals across Illinois in an effort to boost capital construction and create jobs.
The investments are part of Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's "Illinois Jobs Now!" program. So far under the program, Illinois hospitals have received $150 million.
Fifteen hospitals in the Cook County area received the biggest sum at $47 million cumulatively. Almost two dozen hospitals in central and eastern Illinois split $4.7 million in investments, and nearly 30 hospitals in southern Illinois received $5.1 million. Funds are going toward electronic health record systems, renovations, equipment, building repair and other general maintenance purposes.
Mount Sinai Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, both in Chicago, each received $3.5 million for equipment upgrades and building renovations. "These grants will greatly help Mount Sinai and Holy Cross Hospitals, both part of Sinai Health System, create necessary and vital improvements," Sinai Health System President and CEO Alan Channing said in a news release. "Each hospital is a critical part of the Illinois healthcare safety net and will make excellent use of this funding to better care for patients in challenged communities."
