Health Insurance Exchanges Chief to Resign

Joel Ario, the man tasked with overseeing the implementation of state health insurance exchanges at the Department of Health and Human Services, is leaving his position, according to a Reuters report.

News reports confirmed Mr. Ario's departure early Tuesday. According to Steve Larsen, director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight with CMS, planning for state exchanges will continue as intended in Mr. Ario's absence.

It remains unclear why Mr. Ario is leaving or who will replace him. He joined HHS last year after working as Pennsylvania's insurance commissioner since 2007.
