Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford and health insurer Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in North Haven, Conn., have reached a multiyear agreement on managed care contracts after a nearly two-month standoff.
CCMC, as well as the Connecticut Children's Specialty Group, allowed the contract to terminate in April. CCMC officials said the payor did not provide "adequate rate increases," while Anthem officials argued the hospital's rates were "commensurate with other like institutions."
Anthem, CCMC and CCSG have also worked out an arrangement so claims for Anthem members during the two-month hiatus will be paid under the member's in-network benefits.
"We truly understand the impact that this situation has had on children and families, and we are pleased to have reached a resolution," said Martin Gavin, CCMC president and CEO, in a news release. "We greatly value the relationships we have with Anthem's members, and we are glad that they once again have access to the high-quality care we provide."
