Details on the 2 percent cut to Medicare reimbursement as a result of the sequester were issued (pdf) by CMS.
The CMS release states the lower rate will apply to dates-of-service and dates-of-discharge for fee-for-service programs in Part A and Part B starting April 1 and later. Durable medical equipment claims will see the same reduction for rental dates and dates-of-service that begin April 1 or later.
The adjustment will be applied after coinsurance, deductibles and Medicare Secondary Payment adjustments have been accounted for.
Beneficiaries will not pay more for deductibles and coinsurance as part of the sequester cuts, but Medicare will pay less to them for unassigned claims and encourages physicians who bill claims on an unassigned basis to discuss this with their patients.
