CMS has officially approved Oregon's Medicaid demonstration program, which will be centered around coordinated care organizations.
In May, Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, MD, and HHS announced a preliminary approval, which included $1.9 billion in federal funding over five years. The Medicaid CCOs will focus on the integration of health services, reduction of administrative overhead and improvement of patient-centered care.
By August 1, eight approved CCOs will begin serving Medicaid beneficiaries in the state. Another six CCOs have been "provisionally certified" and are expected to launch in September.
In addition to preventive care and better patient management among providers, Oregon's Medicaid CCOs will also work "to increase health equity, to ensure that everyone in Oregon has the care they need to stay healthy," according to the Oregon Health Authority.
